What is the Science of Numerology and How Can It Benefit Us?

Numerology is the science of numbers. It can help you to know yourself at a deeper level, allowing you to make better choices in life, aligned with your soul’s highest purpose.

Everything in the universe vibrates at its own particular frequency. By finding the vibration rate of any object, you can establish the qualities and energies associated with it. By applying the principles of Numerology you can determine your own major frequencies. A numerical analysis of these calculated frequencies—using your name and birth date as the basic data—provides significant information about your personality and character.

The practice of Numerology can be traced back some 10,000 years to Egypt and Babylonia. You may even be surprised to learn that Pythagoras, who developed many of the basic theorems that form the foundation of present-day mathematics (including the right triangle theorem taught in math classes today), is credited with formally organizing the field of numerology about 2,600 years ago in ancient Greece.

How Did You Get Started in Numerology?

I first became aware of numerology from a psychologist that I was working with during a particularly challenging period in my life. He would often ask me for my name and date of birth, and after about the 3rd or 4th time, I finally asked him why he kept asking me for this information.

His answer surprised me. He said he could learn more about me from numerology then by listening to me sharing my life story, and as a result, be able to help me more!

How my partner, Matthew Goodwin, got started in numerology is equally as fascinating. Matthew was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and worked as an architect for many years. Interestingly, he was introduced to numerology by an assistant that used to help him in hiring new employees at one of the architectural firms where he was a partner. Without him knowing it, she would give her evaluation of each new hire using numerology. He found that her comments—whether good or bad—pegged the individuals he’d employed. It was only after she left the firm that Matthew, who came to depend on her advice, found out what she was doing.

Matthew once commented that the only way he could have ever believed in numerology was to see it work for two years and never know what it was. After this experience, he delved into the study of this ancient science and became highly regarded in his new field.

Can You Share Some Examples of How Numerology Has Helped You and Others?

Numerology has helped me in several important ways. It certainly helped me to better understand myself, including those strengths I had not fully appreciated and realized yet. By bringing these potential strengths into my awareness, I was better able to manifest them over time by deciding to take advantage of opportunities I might have previously passed over.

Numerology was also very important in improving my marriage. Before I knew anything about numerology, like many, I often tried to change my wife to be more like me. Since she was very different then I was, this didn’t go so well. When I finally learned about numerology I realized, based on her numbers, that she needed to be who she was to fulfill her soul’s purpose and mission in life, and if I changed her, I would be doing her a great disservice. From that moment forward, I stopped trying to change her, and our relationship over time significantly improved.

Another example was a family friend that I gave one of our reports to as a gift. I saw her several months later and she commented that many parts of the report were highly accurate, except the section that highlighted her business strength. At that time, she could not relate to this, and felt this had to be in error.

We met again a couple of years later, and she shared in hindsight, that her numerology reading turned out to be rather accurate. She became interested in jewelry some time after she read her report, and because of the self-confidence the report gave her, she decided to start a business around jewelry. This is something she never saw herself doing. And the business turned out to be both satisfying and successful.

I have also had a number of clients over the years. In most of their numerology charts I found contradictory energies pulling them in two or more very different directions. This often confused and frustrated them because they couldn’t seem to reconcile these differences. With the help of numerology, they could finally see the whole picture of who they were, including the diverse parts of their personality which were the source of their conflicts, and the necessary steps that would overcome their self-imposed barriers. This allowed them to discover fresh approaches they could comfortably follow because of this new awareness and direction they received, helping them to reshape their lives in more positive ways.

Is There a Relationship Between Karma, Reincarnation and Numerology?

When I talk about numerology, I find that an understanding of the Law of Karma and Reincarnation helps you to better understand the many lessons you, as a soul, are here to learn this particular time lifetime, and as are shown in your numerology chart. The Law of Karma essentially says that whatever you sow, you shall reap. In other words, if you perform good actions, you will receive good experiences in this lifetime or future lifetimes. Likewise, if you harm someone, then you will receive lessons in the future that teach you that maybe that wasn’t such a good thing to do. Depending on how great the harm you caused others by your actions, will determine the depth and difficulty of the future lessons you will be presented with.

Reincarnation is the principal that we live more then one lifetime, and come back many times in a new physical form to continue our “education” in what can be considered “school house earth.” What each of these lives looks like depends on our actions in the past, i.e., our Karma.

One of the misunderstood principals of Karma is that Karma is not meant to harm us, but to teach us those lessons we need to learn to move forward on our soul’s evolution back to Spirit—which really is the highest purpose of life for all of us, whether or not we realize it.

Each of the 9 essential numbers, 1 – 9, in numerology correspond to different energies, or lessons, we are here to master. Each number represents a spectrum of possibilities, from one extreme where we can totally ignore the energy we are here to work with, to the other extreme where we can over utilize an energy to our own detriment. The goal of numerology is to show you what the balanced use of this energy looks like so you can consciously move your life in this direction. We can also see areas from the past where we are still blocked, and what we must do to overcome these karmic patterns. And, we can also see our positive past experiences that have helped establish our natural talents and abilities in this lifetime.

How Does an Understanding of the Spiritual Principles That Influence Our Lives Help Us To Get More Out of Numerology, and to Better Realize Our True Purpose in Life?

We have already touched upon this when we talked about Karma and Reincarnation. But, to take this concept a little further, I think it is very helpful to have a clearer understanding of the highest purpose of life, which is quite different then most people think.

The real purpose of life is for each of us to purify our hearts, minds and souls that we can unite our individual souls with the infinite Spirit from which we have come. Spirit wanted to experience Itself, and to be able to do so, it needed to separate a part of Itself from Itself. To do this, Spirit individualized Itself as many souls, which is our true essence. When the Bible says that we are made in God’s image, it’s the soul they are referring to, not our physical bodies. These bodies are just temporary vehicles for the soul to experience life and the many opportunities life gives us to awaken to our true Divine nature. This is the goal of all true spiritual paths.

In order for Spirit to keep It’s individualized aspects apart from Itself, It created two very powerful forces: Maya, or delusion—and Love. Maya is that powerful and necessary force for this Divine separation to happen. Yet in God’s infinite compassion, he also created an even more powerful force, and that is Love, which is like a magnet that draws our souls back to Him. Without Maya, there could be no separation. And, at the same time, Spirit is our true home which we are constantly being drawn back to through the power of Love.

This is quite an elaborate drama, and we are each playing our roles in this Divine Play, which we can get a glimpse of through numerology. The best course of action for each of us is to try to play our roles to the best of our abilities. And, through these roles, we learn the many lessons along the way that will eventually allow us to return back to our true home in Spirit. This is the path that all great Masters who have walked this earth have taken in one form or another.

Keeping all this in mind, we can best think of numerology as a way to see many of the particular lessons we are here to learn this lifetime, realizing that the ultimate purpose of life is to complete our journey back home to Spirit. In this sense, numerology is one of many tools that the universe has given us to hasten our return.

Once we understand the importance of the lessons we are presented with, we are able to have a different attitude to our life’s challenges. Instead of complaining and looking for an easy way out, we learn to embrace these challenges and to use all our native intelligence to understand, and all our inherent power to overcome. This is how we develop spiritual muscles and move forward on our journey home.
